CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN AT HISTORIC BOBBY JONES GOLF CLUB

July 2, 2021

Former regular patrons would not recognize historic Bobby Jones Golf Club now, where 45 holes of golf once were played by golfers from all over the world.
“Yes, the clubhouse, cart barn, locker barn and both starter booths are just history now,” wrote Sue Martin in an email. Martin is the general manager of Parks and Recreation of the City of Sarasota and the former general manager of Bobby Jones.
For the past year, the property has been used as a nature trail where people could walk the former courses, but even that is closed for the time being.
Once the demolition is completed, construction will begin on an 18-hole golf course and recreation complex, located off Circus Blvd. in Sarasota. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
Martin wrote that the course construction bid is scheduled to be opened July 13. At the same time, there is an ITN (invitation to negotiate) to see if there is any interest in taking over management. Proposals are due by July 7.
