TIP: CUT DOWN ON 3 PUTTS

September 18, 2022

By Sage Johnson, PGA, The Meadows CC

First, make your stroke as symmetrical as possible, especially for longer putts (see picture). For short putts, I prefer a slightly longer follow through to the hole/target.

Practice two distances: 30 feet and 3 feet. If you get really good at getting the ball within 3 ft. from 30 ft. away, your second putt will be far easier to sink and your 3-putt percentage will drastically drop. If you can practice a minimum of 20 3-footers per day and get automatic from 3 feet, you’ll save 5-10 stroke per round!
